Hublot has announced the launch of its latest limited edition Big Bang Unico Sailing Team, created in partnership with world-class Swiss sailor Alan Roura. Crafted in gleaming black carbon fiber, the 42mm automatic chronograph complements the construction of the Hublot Sailing Team IMOCA monohull. But the similarities don’t stop there.

The entire replica watches on sale is powered by the HUB1280 Unico in-house movement with a power reserve of up to 72 hours, subtly echoing and paying homage to this proud vessel. Yellow accents are found on the subdial at 3 o’clock, as well as on the 60-second chronograph track and chronograph hands. This color scheme also appears on the IMOCA, a subtle nod to the groundbreaking Hublot Classic Original, which combined gold with a rubber strap for the first time. A closer look at the subdial at 9 o’clock reveals a small Swiss flag, a tribute to Roura’s origins, and the numbers “SUI 7” on his sailboat.

The watch will be produced in a limited edition of 100 pieces and will be available with a black fabric strap and ceramic sports buckle, or a contrasting yellow rubber strap. This latest watch combines luxury with undeniable sportiness while retaining the unwavering aesthetic of the Big Bang, continuing Hublot’s pursuit of extreme sports and world-class performance.

Roura is the skipper of the IMOCA, a monohull sailing boat that is completely powered by wind and reaches its top speed by lifting the hull out of the water and gliding on an extended carbon fiber foil. The Vendée Globe is a non-stop, single-handed round-the-world sailing race that began in 1989. Since its inception, only 114 sailors have completed the race, without the help of any support crew.

Rula has devoted nearly his entire life to sailing. In 2016, at the age of 23, he became the youngest skipper in the history of the Vendée Globe to compete or finish. In 2019, he competed for the second time, setting the North Atlantic crossing speed record before finishing 17th (a huge achievement in itself). He will compete in the Vendée Globe for the third time, from November to March 2024, and he is more determined than ever to win this notorious and grueling race. This time, however, he will be wearing his own limited edition Hublot Big Bang Unico watch.
